A lioness & her cubsA warthog pranced blithely along the savannah. Too late, it ran. Squeals emanated from behind a low bush. The lioness dragged its kill to the shade while two cubs waited in anticipation. "The mother will not share," said the Kenya Wildlife Service ranger leading the morning's drive. "That warthog is a snack for a lioness." As if on cue, the cubs approached. The lioness snarled, neck elongated, veins protruding as if in caricature. The cubs, admonished, retreated, while the lioness gathered strength for the meal that would feed her cubs.
